Square 5
Lunar eclipse/ Solar Eclipse and other details

Designed and made by Julia Sexton.

"It occurred to me that mat be there would not be an actual memorial of the 2000 year anniversary of Jesus' birth so that was my starting point to designing this square. This idea led me to include one or too of the more exciting recent celestial events, the solar eclipse and lunar eclipse and finally to look back 2000 years when there were Romans living in the area".

This was Julia's second contribution to the quilt. The background fabric was dyed with watered down acrylic paints. She used a mixture of pure silk and acetate lining fabric.

" The materials came from my Great Aunt Nellie Parnnett who lived in Lewes in the 1940's. She had been a court dressmaker and would show me the beautiful scraps. I still have many of the pieces of ribbons and silks left." Julia Sexton.
