Square
16
18th Brighton Brownies

Designed
and made by Jenny Smith
"There
as been a Brownie Pack at St. Luke's Hall, Exeter Street, since
1941 and I have been running the group for the last 11 years. I
wanted to show what the symbolic emblems of the Brownies looked
like as well as the current Brownie uniform.
It
took me around 2-3 months to make the square and although I had
done some sewing before I had not attempted any patchwork and quilting
but I did enjoy learning a new skill. I transferred the design by
tracing the shapes onto bondaweb and finishing the edges with blanket
stitch. Some of the fabrics were bought and some were donated.
I remember
the help and friendship there was in the working groups as the squares
were gradually assembled. I think it was a wonderful idea to get
everyone in Prestonville together to make these magnificent quilts."
