Good Companions Pub

"There are four pubs in Prestonville and having depicted one pub the Dyke Road Inn I felt obliged to take on the Good Companions Pub that had so far not had any offers to depict it.

I had not previously paid much attention to the architecture of the building but soon became struck by its grand 1930's roadhouse style. I took some photographs of it on a rainy day during the early summer of 1999 and enlarged the photograph using a photocopying machine.

I traced off the shapes and using Bondaweb applied the shapes gradually building them up. I added the final details using a combination of machine satin stitch and hand embroidery for the hanging baskets.

I used nearly all bought patchwork fabrics and enjoyed using a special Brown Millennium fabric with the year 2000 written on it for the walls."
