Stanford Infant School

Designed
and made by Sara Cook
I chose
to represent the School as my first daughter had just stated there.
Looking at designs from various Oxfam quilts that I had seen inspired
me. I wanted to have one child from each class in the school with
the head teacher Mrs Wicker at the centre.
The
school playground is dominated by large trees, which shade the children
in summer. The swan is the school emblem but no one has ever been
able to tell me why. I traced the shapes onto bondaweb and used
machine techniques to apply them. I particularly enjoyed embroidering
the children's hair, which like them was not always as neat as it
could have been.
I struggled
to find the right shade and size of print for the Gingham dresses
then at the last minute I got a phone call from a lady who wondered
if she could donate some fabrics and there amongst them all was
the green gingham I had been searching for.
